Resumo: O fósforo é um dos nutrientes mais importantes para a soja, porém apresenta uma dinâmica complexa no solo e pode tornar-se indisponível. A aplicação parcelada e localizada desse nutriente pode ser tática eficiente para aumentar sua disponibilidade. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do parcelamento da dose de P aplicada ao solo e do recobrimento das sementes com fosfato de sódio monobásico na nodulação, no crescimento e nos componentes de rendimento de plantas de soja cultivar BRS Valiosa RR. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2x5x3, ou seja, recobrimento ou não das sementes; cinco doses de P aplicados ao solo; e três épocas de parcelamento da adubação fosfatada. As seguintes variáveis resposta foram avaliadas: teor de P na folha índice, matéria seca da parte aérea, da raiz e dos nódulos, componentes de rendimento e altura de plantas. Houve incremento na nodulação e no crescimento das plantas com o aumento das doses de fósforo aplicado no solo. Nas menores doses, o recobrimento das sementes e o parcelamento da adubação fosfatada aumentaram a nodulação, o crescimento e os componentes do rendimento das plantas. Assim, o parcelamento da dose de P, aliado ao recobrimento das sementes, é indicado para aumentar os componentes de produtividade das plantas de soja.

Abstract: Phosphorus is one of the most important nutrients for soybeans, but it presents a complex dynamic in the soil and can become unavailable. The split and localized application of this nutrient can be an effective approach to increase its availability. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a split phosphorus dose applied to the soil and the seed coating with monobasic sodium phosphate on nodulation, growth and yield components of soybean cultivar BRS Valiosa RR. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse in a completely randomized design in a 2x5x3 factorial arrangement, i.e., coating or not the seeds; five doses of phosphorus applied to the soil; and three times of splitting phosphate fertilizer. Phosphorus content in the index leaf (IL), dry matter of shoots, roots and nodules, yield components, and plant height were evaluated. There was an increase in nodulation and growth of plants with increased levels of phosphorus applied to the soil. In smaller doses, the seed coating and the splitting of phosphorus fertilizer increased nodulation, growth and yield components of plants. Thus, the splitting of the phosphorus dose, combined with seed coating, is indicated for increasing the yield components of soybean plants.

Resumo: Sementes de oleaginosas, como as de J. curcas, são mais propensas à deterioração e consequente perda de qualidade durante o armazenamento. Nesse contexto, técnicas adequadas para a sua conservação tornam-se importantes. Nesse estudo, objetivou-se avaliar diferentes ambientes e embalagens na conservação de sementes de J. curcas ao longo de doze meses de armazenamento. As sementes foram acondicionadas em diferentes embalagens: saco de papel multifoliado; saco de pano e saco plástico de alta densidade. Em seguida, foram armazenadas em diferentes condições: laboratório (23 ± 3 ºC; 64 ± 11% de UR); sala refrigerada (20 ± 2 oC; 55 ± 5% de UR) e câmara fria (10 ± 2 oC; 55 ± 5% de UR). Inicialmente, e a cada três meses, foram realizadas avaliações da qualidade fisiológica (germinação e vigor) das sementes. Sementes de J. curcas acondicionadas em saco plástico e armazenadas em câmara fria mantiveram seu potencial germinativo por doze meses. Houve redução da qualidade fisiológica das sementes mantidas em ambiente de laboratório independente da embalagem utilizada. Verificou-se que a condição mais adequada para o armazenamento das sementes de J. curcas foi o acondicionamento em saco plástico em câmara fria (10 ± 2 oC; 55 ± 5% de UR).

Abstract: Oil seeds, such as J. curcas, are more prone to deterioration and consequently to loss of quality during storage. In this context, adequate technics for its preservation are of great importance. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different environments and packaging for the conservation of J. curcas seeds during twelve months of storage. The seeds were placed in three different types of packaging: a multiwall paper bag (or Kraft paper bag); a cloth bag; and a high-density plastic bag. After this, the seeds were stored in three different conditions: a laboratory (23 ± 3 ºC; 64 ± 11% of RH); a refrigerated room (20 ± 2 oC; 55 ± 5% of RH) and a cold chamber (10 ± 2 oC; 55 ± 5% of RH). Initially and thereafter every three months, the physiological qualities (germination and vigor) of the seeds were evaluated. J. curcas seeds packed in the plastic bags and stored in a cold chamber maintained their germination potential during twelve months. There was a decline in the physiological quality of the seeds stored in the laboratory conditions, independent of the packaging used. It was concluded that the most suitable condition for the storage of J. curcas seeds was packing them in plastic bags, placed in a cold chamber (10 ± 2 oC; 55 ± 5% of RH).

RESUMO A importância do tamanho das sementes tem sido relatada para várias espécies, visto que pode afetar a sua germinação e o vigor das plântulas, principalmente sob condições de estresse. Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do tamanho das sementes na germinação e crescimento inicial de plântulas de soja (cultivares M9144RR e M8527RR), sob condições de estresse hídrico e salino. O estresse hídrico foi induzido por manitol e o salino por cloreto de sódio. Para a avaliação do efeito dos tratamentos, as sementes foram submetidas ao teste de germinação, primeira contagem de germinação e crescimento de plântulas. Utilizou-se delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições. Houve redução na germinação e no vigor das sementes de soja com a diminuição do potencial osmótico. Não foi observado efeito do tamanho das sementes sobre a germinação e comprimento das plântulas, porém, as sementes de maior tamanho resultaram em plântulas com maior massa seca, mesmo quando submetidas a condições de estresse hídrico e salino.

ABSTRACT The importance of seed size has been reported for many species, since it may affect seed germination and seedling vigor, especially under stress conditions. This study aimed at evaluating the effect of seed size on the germination and initial growth of soybean seedlings (M9144RR and M8527RR cultivars), under water and salt stress conditions. Water stress was induced by mannitol and salt stress by sodium chloride. The seeds were submitted to the germination test, first germination count and seedling growth to assess the effects of the treatments. A completely randomized design with four replications was used. The germination and vigor of soybean seeds decreased with the reduction of osmotic potential. There was no effect of seed size on germination and seedlings length. However, the seeds with higher size resulted in seedlings with greater dry mass, even when subjected to water and salt stress conditions.

Atualmente, há grande interesse pelo cultivo do pinhão manso para a produção de biodiesel, o que tem levado a um aumento na procura por sementes, exigindo informações precisas sobre a sua qualidade fisiológica, especialmente o vigor. Objetivou-se avaliar a eficiência do teste de envelhecimento acelerado, com variações, para a verificação do vigor de sementes de pinhão manso. Sementes de quatro lotes foram incialmente caracterizadas quanto à qualidade fisiológica pelos testes de germinação e de vigor. Para a realização do teste de envelhecimento acelerado, foram testadas as temperaturas de 42 e 45 ºC, por 48; 72 e 96 horas. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado e as médias dos tratamentos comparadas pelo teste de Tukey (p<0,05). Foram calculados os coeficientes de correlação de Pearson entre os resultados de envelhecimento acelerado e os dos demais testes. O teste de envelhecimento acelerado a 42 ou 45 ºC por 48 horas, é eficiente para classificar lotes de sementes de pinhão manso em níveis de vigor.

There is currently great interest in the cultivation of the Jatropha curcas L., known locally as physic nut, for the production of biodiesel, leading to an increase in the demand for seeds and precise information as to their physiological quality, especially vigour. The objective was to evaluate the efficiency of the accelerated ageing test, with variations, in verifying the vigour of Jatropha seeds. Four seed lots were initially characterized as to their physiological quality by germination and vigour tests. For accelerated ageing test, temperatures of 42 and 45 ºC were tested during 48, 72 and 96 hours. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design and the averages of the treatments compared by Tukey test (p<0,05). The Pearson correlation coefficients for the results of accelerated ageing against results from the other tests were calculated. The accelerated ageing test at 42 or 45 ºC for 48 hours is efficient to classify Jatropha seed lots according to vigour level.

A alta qualidade da semente é um insumo com valor inestimável para a obtenção de lavouras de soja com altos rendimentos; pois reflete os resultados de altos investimentos em pesquisa de tecnologias modernas, que serão convertidas em elevados níveis de produtividade. Sendo assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o desempenho de sementes de soja, classificadas por tamanho, e cultivadas em solos com diferentes níveis de fósforo. Para tanto, sementes de duas cultivares soja (MSoy 9144RR e MSoy 8527RR), foram classificadas em peneiras circulares de tamanho 14 e 18, com crivos de 5,5 e 7,5 mm de diâmetro. A semeadura foi feita em vasos plásticos, com capacidade para 3,0 dm³ de substrato, contendo Latossolo vermelho-amarelo, adubado com doses crescentes de fósforo (50, 100, 200, 300 e 400 mg.kg-1), e realizada sob condições ambientais de casa de vegetação. O tamanho das sementes não influenciou significativamente os valores obtidos para as variáveis analisadas; porém houve tendência de incremento desses valores nas sementes maiores. Com o aumento das doses de fósforo no solo também houve tendência de aumento nos valores obtidos para todas as variáveis analisadas.

The high quality seed is an input with invaluable for obtaining soybean crops with higher yields; for it reflects the results of high investments in research of modern technologies, which will be converted into high productivity levels. Thus, the aim of this study was assessing performance of soybean seeds, sorted by size, and grown in soils with different phosphorus levels. To this, seeds of two soybean cultivars (MSoy 9144RR and MSoy 8527RR) were sorted with aid of circular screens with perforations of 5.5 mm and 7.5 mm in diameter. Sowing was carried out into plastic pots, with 3.0 dm³ substrate capacity each, containing a Red-Yellow Oxisol, fertilized with increasing phosphorus dosages (50, 100, 200, 300 and 400 mg. Kg-1), and performed under greenhouse environmental conditions. Seed size did not significantly influence the values obtained to the variables analyzed; however, to the larger seeds there was a trend of increase on these values. There was also a trend of increase on these values to all variables assessed when the dosages of phosphorus in the soil were increased.

As pesquisas realizadas têm mostrado que o teste de germinação nem sempre revela diferenças de desempenho entre lotes de sementes, assim, tem-se estudado métodos que permitam diferenciar os lotes utilizando-se os testes de vigor. Assim, conduziu-se este trabalho, com o objetivo de estudar a eficiência de diferentes testes de vigor na avaliação da qualidade fisiológica de sementes de sorgo, cultivar CMSXS 222, bem como avaliar o efeito do volume de água e do período de embebição na sensibilidade do teste de condutividade elétrica. Foram conduzidos os testes de germinação, primeira contagem de germinação, imersão em solução de cloreto de amônio, envelhecimento acelerado, teste frio sem solo, emergência de plântulas em casa de vegetação e condutividade elétrica. A condutividade elétrica foi avaliada após 2, 4, 6, 8, 16, 24 e 48 horas de embebição, utilizando-se quatro subamostras de 50 sementes, imersas em 50 e 75 mL de água, a 25ºC. Os resultados mostraram que o teste de germinação detectou dois níveis de vigor, enquanto o teste de emergência em casa de vegetação detectou três níveis de vigor, mostrando que o teste de germinação apresenta algumas limitações no que se refere à diferenciação de lotes. Entre os testes de vigor realizados em laboratório, o teste de envelhecimento acelerado e teste de frio sem solo mostraram alta correlação significativa com o teste de emergência de plântulas em casa de vegetação. No teste de condutividade elétrica, somente o lote de qualidade inferior foi discriminado com 2, 4 e 6 horas de embebição em 75 mL de água, e com 16 horas de embebição em 50 mL de água. Conclui-se, com este trabalho, que o teste de envelhecimento acelerado e o teste frio sem solo foram eficientes em separar os lotes de sementes de sorgo em níveis de vigor se comparados ao teste de emergência de plântulas em casa de vegetação. O teste de condutividade elétrica não constitui opção eficiente para classificação dos lotes em níveis de vigor de sementes de sorgo, possibilitando identificar apenas lotes de baixo vigor.

The researches show that germination tests do not always reveal differences between seed lots, so that other methods have been studied that allow to differentiate the lots using vigor tests. The goal of this research was, therefore, to verify the efficiency of different vigor tests on the evaluation the physiological quality of sorghum seeds and to determine the effects of water volume and imbibition period on the efficiency of the electrical conductivity test to evaluate sorghum seed vigor. The physiological quality of the seeds was evaluated by the germination test, first count, cold test without soil, immersion in ammonium chloride, seedling emergence in greenhouse and accelerated aging. Electrical conductivity was determined at 2, 4, 6, 8, 16, 24 and 48 hours imbibition, using four subsamples of 50 seeds, soaked in 50 and 75 mL water, at 25ºC. The results showed that the germination test detected two levels of vigor, while the seedling emergence in greenhouse detected three levels of vigor, showing that the germination test has some limitations regarding the differentiation of lots. Among vigor tests carried out in the laboratory, the test of accelerated aging and cold test without soil showed a highly significant correlation with seedling emergence in greenhouse. In the test of electric conductivity only the lot of inferior quality was discriminated with 2, 4 and 6 hours of imbibition in 75 mL of water, and with 16 hours of imbibition in 50 mL of water. It was concluded that the accelerated aging and cold test were efficient for vigor evaluation of sorghum seeds compared to the seedling emergence in greenhouse. The test of electric conductivity is not an efficient option for classification of the lots in levels of vigor of sorghum seeds, just identifying lots with low vigor.
